Winter or summer, the gardens at The Farmer’s Arms are always a pleasure to spend time in. Crisp and quiet through the winter months, there is still colour to be seen in the well-kept beds, and when it snows, it couldn’t be more picturesque.

Summer is a blaze of colour and activity. Floral perfumes pleasantly waft through the warm air, and the hustle and bustle of the 21st century is forgotten in gentle birdsong.

Sounds from the past can sometimes invade the peaceful environs though, in the form of a blast of a whistle from a passing steam train. The Taunton to Minehead line runs close by, and though no longer in use by British Rail, there is a private service - The West Somerset Railway, (which you can find out more about on our Local Interest page), which is open to the public.

"...A thatched cottage oasis with a warm welcome and fine food, beers and wines alongside the West Somerset Railway line and a babbling brook."
Colin Teasdale of the Guardian
